NIghtmare Diet Drug Approved by FDA Print E-mail

I really think this is a true travesty that this drug was put in the hands of the American people. It’s bad enough that the FDA allows all those unhealthy and potentially dangerous weight-loss supplements – Now they’re letting this ridiculous drug be sold OTC. You have to be kidding me. This stuff has such terrible side effects, and without serious behavioral counseling and the help of a professional, there will BE NO LONG TERM WEIGHT LOSS. Even the best case scenario is only a 5% weight loss. And the research studies that support this weight loss all include behavioral counseling. They think a few booklets are gonna count as behavioral counseling? What drugs is Glaxo taking that are giving them the confidence to believe that this is really gonna actually work? Oh right—they don’t care whether it works or not. And why do they think that they’re gonna do better than Roche, who spent a fortune trying to market this and make it work via prescription? Check out the NY Daily News

The name Xenical (the prescription strength version) was one of Roche’s bigger failures – they lost $100s of millions on this. So now it’s being reincarnated in a lower strength and under a new name to try to grab those unsuspecting people and convince them that this is going to be their saving grace. Wait til those people have their first embarrassing moment, when something leaks from their rear (one of the major side effects). Do you think they’re gonna eat the cupcake?? Or stop taking the pill??
