This can definitely be put under the heading of "Duh," but how many more times do we need to hear that moderation and balance are the keys to healthy living? The results of a recent study announced to the world that pregnant women can enjoy up to three cups of caffienated coffee a day without doing harm to their unborn child. This is yet another instance where common sense has seemingly been backed up by science. Solon, one of the seven wisemen of Greece, said it best way back about the 6th century B.C. when he put forth, "Nothing in excess." Actually it's kind of depressing to me that this even had to be studied. I guess the need to "clinicalize " drinking coffee was brought about by the meddlesome food police and their insistance that everything but organic food will cause trouble, health problems, death, displacement, horror, halitosis and dishonor. If you have balance in your life, if you engage in regular exercise, eat good food and get plenty of rest and sex doesn't it seem a little silly to worry about your morning caffeine fix? It is silly. But because so many people can't control themselves, the rest of us have to hear about how bad certain things are when NOT taken in moderation. "Nothing in excess," and "Excees is evil." How's that? I don't really concern myself with the folks who can't get their act together and as a result have to worry about their health. For the past 40 years people have been told about the virutes and benefits of regular exercise and the evils of sloth and fast foods and too much food. If these people haven't taken heed, why should those of us who can enjoy and control ourselves be dragged down? So here's to you, my fellow morning caffeine heads. Drink up, but in moderation of course! Trackback(0)
