Are We Slowly Poisoning Ourselves? Print E-mail

Have you seen the DietDetective.com poll? I have to admit, I’m not sure how I would vote, but I’m leaning towards giving up the 5 years. Not so much so I could eat cake and cookies all the time (which wouldn’t be so bad), but more because who really knows what our food does to us.

Researchers are finding new things out about our food every day, however, we are still unsure about what’s “healthy” and what’s “unhealthy.”   We’re told to eat more fruits and vegetables, but we have no idea if the long term consequences are going to be that we’ve been poisoning ourselves all these years with pesticides.  Yes, I know that we’ve been told by the FDA and USDA not to worry, but who trusts them. I don’t. They have an anti-alarmist mentality that pushes them towards balance. Meaning, they’re constantly worried about who they might offend or who they might alarm, so they stay very conservative. Unfortunately that conservatism might be killing us—slowly.  I wish we really had an agency or a non-profit group with power that we could really trust with our food. Check out this series of articles I wrote on Organic foods and meats, it was an eye opener.
