Holiday Slimdown Secrets, Part 1 Print E-mail

Here’s how I know it’s the holiday season: I just ate an Oreo brownie for breakfast. And it’s only going to go downhill from here. Then again, I’m sure I’d feel much worse if I were getting paid a few million a year to look good on camera. Because if you think you’re ready to splurge, imagine you’ve spent the past year munching on steamed veggies, coffee, and Zone-sized portions of baked chicken. The stars have a lot of lost feasting to make up for.

So how do stars survive the holiday season? Well, the first step is to cut back on food. Rosario Dawson says, “I drink lots of water and remember that moderation is everyone’s best friend.”

House’s Lisa Edelstein has it a little easier, because she just hates sweet treats. (Makes you hate her a little, doesn’t it?) She swears, “I hate holiday food. I’m the one that comes over with the broccoli and the salad so that people have something good.” The O.C.’s Melinda Clarke skips the sweets too, but purely for health reasons—she avoids sugar and eats everything else in small portions. If I worked with Rachel Bilson, I’d watch my snacks with an eagle eye, too.

But I’m going to get behind Emily Deschanel’s theory, only because it fits my brownie-for-breakfast meal. Her advice: “If you indulge and you feel guilty, you’ll say, ‘Forget it, I’ve already gone off my diet.’ Take a day, really enjoy it, and eat what you want. One day is not going to kill you.”

Just one day? Looks like I’ve already wasted mine.
