Josh GrosJosh Gros is a midfielder for the Major League Soccer team, D.C. United.  A former Rutgers soccer player, Gros was drafted into the MLS in 2004.

Question: Tell us how you got to where you are now.

­I have played soccer since the age of 5, and attended Rutgers University from 2000-2004. I got drafted by DC United in 2004 and have been playing with them since then.

Question: What's the most bodacious chance you've ever taken?

­I took a chance on attending the MLS combine, because I thought I had no chance of making it. I had another career already lined up.

Question: What's the biggest lesson you've learned about yourself? What's the biggest lesson you haven't learned?

­I’ve learned that its better to try something and fail then never try at all. The biggest lesson I haven’t learned is how to speak Spanish.

Question: What keeps you going (your motivation)?

­My family and my girlfriend.

Question: On those days when you're not motivated to work out, but you know you have to, what's the one thought that gets you going?

­That somebody I am going to have to play against is already working out.

Question: What person do you respect most, or who motivates you?

­My dad.

Question: If you had to choose a specific song or band to get you psyched for your workout, what would it be? What other songs are on your iPod?

I don’t get psyched from music. I only listen to country and that’s not really psych up music.

Question: If you could build a soundtrack to your life what bands would be on the finished product?

­Tim McGraw and Clint Black

Question: If you could eat one forbidden food whenever you wanted without gaining weight, what would it be?

­Ice cream

Question: If there were one healthy food item (something you love) that you had to eat every day, what would it be?

­Raspberries

Question: What is the one food or meal you always eat before an event? What about before training?

­I always eat chicken that is cooked in any way but fried.

Question: If you could only do one strength training exercise what would it be?

Leg extensions.

Question: What do you consider the world’s most perfect food?

­Blueberry Nutrigrain bars

Question: Do you have any sports superstitions or rituals?

­I tape my wrist even though its been two years since I broke it

Question: How do you take total control of your mind and body to achieve the focus you need during pivotal sports moments?­

I just know that I can’t let my teammates down and I focus on doing whatever is necessary for the team

Question: What do you think is the best training location in the world?

­Mechanicsburg, P.A

Question: What do you do to reduce stress/relax/center your mind? Do you participate in an organized relaxation activity such as yoga, meditation or tai chi?

I go home and nap ... no yoga.

Question: Do you have a favorite healthy recipe or cooking tip? If so would you share it?

­My mom never cooked what would be considered healthy food, but Pennsylvania Dutch cooking is amazing.

Question: Do you have a Calorie Bargain? What food did it replace? 

No.

Question: Is there anything about yourself that you've changed your mind about in the last 20 years?

Not really. 

Question: What's the next major item on your "to-do" list?

­Put new windows on the townhouse I just bought.

Question: Define individual responsibility and how you react to adverse situations.

Individual responsibility is what you must make sure gets done without other people telling you to do it.

Question: What was your worst summer job?

Landscaping.

Question: What’s the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you?­

In high school my fake tooth flew out of my mouth while I was giving a presentation. It was one of my front teeth. I tried to put it back in but it wouldn’t stay so I spoke with my hand over my mouth. It was loose because I wasn’t fully matured so they didn’t put in a permanent one.

Question: What place have you traveled to where you think you could live (other than where you live)?

Belgium.

Question: Define and discuss failure.

­Failure is something that can only happen if you don’t try your hardest.
