Why shaking your booty is a good way to exercise.

A night on the dance floor definitely counts as a workout: Dancing can burn between 100 and 300 calories per half hour. Dancing also strengthens the hamstrings, calves, glutes and back.

If you're rusty, lessons do more than teach you a few new moves

Lessons actually improve coordination and help integrate the left and right sides of the brain by mixing creative movement with verbal instruction. Try current favorites: swing, which offers a vigorous aerobic workout, country and western, which offers a low-impact workout similar to walking, or ballroom, which is even gentler, but still offers low-intensity exercise.

Best of all, dancing takes "work" out of the workout because it's fun to do.
