FitTip: Don’t Sacrifice Your Hearing for Fitness Print E-mail

If your aerobics class is particularly loud, hear's how you can prevent the lingering ringing.

It's not hard to find an aerobics or spin class where the music is louder than a Metallica concert. On top of that, the instructor has the microphone jacked up so loud, you can barely understand what she's yelling. If you take that class regularly, the noise will eventually damage your hearing permanently (if your ears ring, it's already underway).

Fortunately, the solution is simple: earplugs. They're cheap, they're available at any drugstore, and they won't deaden the noise so much that you can't hear anything but your own breathing. Use them and you'll actually be able to hear the compliments you get on how great you look.
