Team sports are a great way to get back in the fitness game.

Even if you never made the cut in your youth, it's never too late to take up a team sport in adulthood. Team sports make exercise fun, and your devotion to your team will give you new motivation to stay in shape.

Team sports build confidence and give you valuable communication and negotiation skills that benefit other areas of your life. It's also a great way to meet new people.

And here's a tip that might surprise you: You shouldn't shy away from trying sports you don't enjoy watching on television. While you might find it dull to sit through all nine innings of a baseball game, it could feel great to hit a home run.

Contact your local YMCA, parks department or recreation center to find out more about opportunities for adults.
