It's quite possibly the most basic thing you do, but strategic breathing can have profoundly calming effects.

Deep belly breathing - filling your lungs with air until your chest and stomach fully expand - is an integral part of yoga. This kind of breathing not only helps you relax but also clears your mind of distractions, which really comes in handy on a stressful day at the office.

Practice this exercise whenever life gets a little too hectic:

1. Sit up straight in your chair with your feet flat on the floor.
2. Place one hand against your abdomen, and take in a deep breath through your nose for two or three seconds.
3. Exhale through your mouth or nose for two or three seconds.

Do this 20 to 25 times.
