FitTip: Don't Eat Before Yoga As with most exercises, it is best to practice yoga on an empty stomach.

Question: Why shouldn't I eat before a yoga class?

Internal pressure on the organs increases with many of the poses, so a position that puts any pressure on a full stomach or bladder could be quite uncomfortable and could even cause nausea or dizziness.

How long do I have to wait to take class after I've eaten?

It's best to wait two to three hours after a large meal, or one to two hours after a small one, before beginning your yoga routine. If you're feeling extremely hungry or weak before a session, have a small piece of fruit, a cup of yogurt or a protein drink to give you the fuel you need without filling up.

Your body will thank you for being kind.
