It keeps us alive, yet most of us take breathing for granted.

It keeps us alive every second of every day, yet most of us take breathing for granted. You probably also aren't aware that there can be more to breathing than the usual inhale-exhale. According to ancient yogic practice, special breathing exercises can do as much for our bodies and minds as exercise and the yoga poses themselves. This breath exercise invigorates the body, clears the mind and rids the lungs of stale air.

Standing up, close your mouth and inhale through your nose with a quick sniff as you sweep your arms up in front of you and over your head. Sniff again through your nose as you sweep your arms out to your sides. With a third sniff, bring your arms back overhead. Now, exhale through your mouth with a "Ha!" as you swing your arms back down to your sides. Bend at the waist and knees with your head and arms hanging toward the floor. Then, inhale through your nose again as you stand up and lift your arms back up over your head and then exhale as you bring your arms back down to your sides.

Repeat this exercise four to five times, quickly. Feel the difference?
