Plagued by neck pain? Some stretches can actually cause more harm than good. Learn three safe, easy ways to soothe a sore neck.

A good neck stretch can ease aching muscles, if it's done slowly and safely. If not, you may end up with an even bigger pain in the neck. To reduce your risk of neck strain, never bounce or roll your neck in a complete circle while stretching. Both movements can force the joints past their natural range of motion. Relax your neck with these stretches.  Repeating each stretch 5 times. After completing all three exercises, try them again, holding each stretch for 2 to 5 seconds.

Chin-to-Shoulder Neck Stretch
Slowly move your chin from your left shoulder to your right shoulder. When the chin reaches the shoulder, look behind your back.

Chin-to-Chest Stretch
Gently drop your chin to your chest and slowly look up, tilting your chin slightly upward (never allow your head to drop back).

Ear-to-Shoulder Stretch
Slowly drop your ear toward your left shoulder. Repeat on the other side.
