Fitness walking is one exercise beginners can take up with very few complications. But there are still a few pitfalls everyone needs to avoid.

* Don't walk with weights.  This can throw off your body alignment and trigger back and knee injuries. To add an extra challenge to yur walking workout, try walking faster, or walking hills.

* Don't skip a thorough warm-up before you start out.

* March in place to rev up your circulation, then gently circle shoulders, hips, knees and ankles to improve joint flexibility.

* Don't leave home without water. Invest in a fanny packs with a bottle holster or a Camelback water carrier with drinking tubes to keep your hands free.

* Don't forget good posture. Keep your back straight, you abs contracted and your chest lifted while you walk.
