I don’t know if you read last week’s National Enquirer, but if you happened to have a long wait at the grocery store recently, you probably know that both Kelly Clarkson and Mandy Moore are suffering from a dangerous eating disorder. It’s called “gaining weight in
Hollywood

This is another interesing study coming out of Cornell University by Brian Wansink and team. The main point, if we see what we've eaten, we will probably eat less. Read on...
Eating with our eyes: Why people eat less at unbused tables. People watching the Super Bowl who saw how much they had already eaten -- in this case, leftover chicken-wing bones -- ate 27 percent less than people who had no such environmental cues, finds a new Cornell study.
The difference between the two groups -- those eating at a table where leftover bones accumulated compared with those whose leftovers were removed -- was greater for men than for women.
"The results suggest that people restrict their consumption when evidence of food consumed is available to signal how much food they have eaten," said Brian Wansink, the John S. Dyson Professor of Marketing and of Applied Economics at Cornell, and author of the 2006 book, "Mindless Eating: Why We Eat More Than We Think." |

Olive Garden ain't exactly a place for "low-carb friendly" meals
If my wife Christine had unlimited resources and was able to buy anything she wanted in the whole world, then there's no doubt in my mind that she would buy her very own Olive Garden restaurant to fill her need for their famous soup, salad, and breadsticks. The woman would literally live off of this meal every single day if she could, although she does admit she'd probably balloon up in weight just as quickly as we'd go bankrupt paying for it! :D
Unfortunately for her, though, the closest Olive Garden to our house has been much too far away for us to visit. So imagine my surprise a few months ago when some new construction started across the street from the Super Wal-Mart along a main road in Spartanburg, South Carolina and we noticed the sign indicated they were building an Olive Garden restaurant. I think Christine did cart wheels inside the car that day!

Ingles dietitian McGrath should not be passing on bad dietary advice
Health information is everywhere these days. From your doctor’s office to public service announcements on the radio and television to annoying and utterly meaningless “heart-healthy” claims that appear on the packaging of some pretty awful food products on grocery store shelves today. Like I said, this stuff's EVERYWHERE!
But imagine my surprise to find information about health in a very odd place--your friendly local supermarket. I was flipping through one of those weekly circular grocery store newspapers with that week’s specials for Ingles grocery stores when I saw this blaring headline that you couldn't help but pay attention to:
“It’s all about the heart!”

I love backstage riders. I think you can learn a lot about someone by finding out what they need—nay, demand—to have with them on the road. You always find some insane, random request such as “fifty clean, white towels washed with organic detergent” or “two aromatherapy pillar candles” (that last one was from K-Fed). But the food rider is the most interesting for me. If you could request literally anything you wanted, what would it be? And with that kind of choice, why on earth would you request 40 bottles of
Fiji
water? Yawn. I would call for five bags of Tostitos nachos and various things to dip said Tostitos in, including but not limited to artichoke dip, pineapple salsa, and hummus. In case you were wondering, that’s also my death-row last-meal request. So, that said, let’s peek at some recent riders. |
