Weight has always been a meal ticket to tabloid superstardom. Whenever you need some free publicity, you can gain too much (Britney Spears, Kirstie Alley, Oprah Winfrey); lose too much (Nicole Richie, Kate Bosworth, Nicky Hilton); or both (Jessica Simpson, Janet Jackson, Hilary Duff). But while the celebs I mentioned above all have actual careers beyond their calorie intake—yes, even Nicky—there’s one person who has literally ridden the coattails of her weight woes for eighteen years now. The snarky muckraker in me would answer that an FDA approval is like a lottery ticket worth billions. Thanks to changes in the law under the Bush Administration, an approval now means companies are not subject to many of the lawsuits they used to be.

Congress went so far as to allow protection to companies who got approvals with studies found to be fraudulent, so long as it got through to the FDA approval, no harm comes to the drug maker and no suits will haunt their profitability.

March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Giant Food, following a voluntary recall by Stonyfield Farm, removed from its shelves 6 ounce cups of Stonyfield Organic Fat Free Blueberry Yogurt because the product may contain plastic and glass fragments.The product recalled by Stonyfield's has a UPC code # 0-52159-00044 with product codes printed along the cup bottom that start with the following dates:- April 13, 2008 -- April 14, 2008 -- April 15, 2008 -- April 25, 2008 -- April 26, 2008. Upon being notified of the voluntary recall, Giant Food immediately removed all affected products from its shelves.

Customers who have purchased the affected products may return them to Giant for a full refund. How often have you seen an overweight police officer and thought - hmm -- too many doughnuts.
