I know, I shouldn't drink diet soda, I should be drinking water? Right? I grew up on diets, and one of my lifesavers was diet soda. Now finding out that there may be a "connection" between diet soda and metabolic syndrome (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, etc...) kinda lets the cat of the bag. You see I know that drinking something like diet soda is probably not good for your diet -- it's not natural -- has chemicals -- and even looks ominous. So now that research is coming out saying it is potentially unhealthy -- well -- it's time to come up with an alternative. It's funny b/c I don't let my daughter drink soda at all. And when she sees me drinking it, at 5 years old, she says "daddy, you know that's bad for you." Yeah, I know, and I will replace it soon with iced tea (which I already drink about 1/2 gallon per day) and more water (not bottled b/c that ruins the environment and not tapped b/c it's dangerous). Here is an abstract of the study, which says that "The diet soda association was not hypothesized and deserves further study." |

I was reading an interview with Jennifer Love Hewitt where she outlined her diet and exercise habits for a day. (Here’s where the tabs would insert a hilarious and totally original pun about her food intake, but let’s skip it.) Turn out she’s actually pretty disciplined. She walks her dog, does yoga, and feasts on mostly virtuous fare like chicken-vegetable couscous or tuna. But one thing was missing from her regimen—the zzz’s. |

To super charge your metabolism, you have to eat protein-rich foods. HIgh in protein, fiber, and essential fatty acids, tempeh is a soy-based food that is actually fermented cooked soybeans with an added helathy mold. Yuck, right?! No! It tastes soooo good! It has a taste very similar to mushrooms. It can be used as a side dish, in your soup, or on top of your favorite salad. I love the blackened tempeh at Real Food Daily!
Not only is it high in protein, but it also has tons of vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals (including saponins and isoflavones). Back to the fiber thing… it makes you feel fuller for much longer, can lower cholesterol and decrease your chances of developing colon cancer. Try adding some extra goodness to your already healthy dish! |

When your mom told you to go out and play, she possibly didn’t realize that just being outside can improve your physical and mental well being. Exercising on a natural surface actually benefits your musculoskeletal system. Ligaments, tendons, and other stabilizing muscles that may not be used on flat or man made surfaces get strengthened really quickly. And think about how nice it is to be under the sun or watching a sunset… |

It seems like fitness and general skinniness have taken a backseat to mental health lately. Between celebs checking into rehab (Kirsten Dunst, Amy Winehouse, Eva Mendes, Sean Young) and celebs visiting psych wards (Britney Spears, Justin Chambers, Delta Burke) there’s barely any time to obsess over who’s gained or lost what. So, that’s my excuse for reporting on Miss
