For the longest time, I have had the most difficult time understanding why 64.5% of Americans are overweight or obese. It’s true. Even with this PhD under my belt, it still evaded me and yet, I sought to help people. Only in my job search have I truly understood how theory translates into practice. I again realized my sense of purpose, otherwise stolen by the process that is the PhD.

A funny thing is happening in the American food supply and while it affects everyone there's surprisingly little discussion of what's going on.  There is almost daily coverage about the threats to our security from terrorists but only the calmest reaction to what's being carried out by corporate activity that threatens us right here at home.

For awhile there, you couldn’t go two feet in LA (or two pages in a tabloid) without seeing someone lugging around a Jamba Juice. The celeb allegiance was surprising, since a small drink packs about 300 calories. But I just saw pics of a preggo Jessica Alba guzzling an Odwalla fruit drink at Whole Foods, and figured I’d run the numbers to see which is the better pick.
