This awkward but effective pose will strengthen your calves, quadriceps, abs and back and improve your balance.
Now
that you understand working from your center, you can try this
challenging, and rather awkward, pose (some actually call this "awkward
pose" or utkatasana).
You've done Cat. You've mastered Up and Down Dog. Now that you're really warmed up, get ready for Cow Face Pose.
Having
sufficiently warmed up your body by moving in vinyasa (a fluid movement
connecting one move to another with synchronized breathing, such as cat
or up dog/down dog), we can hold our bodies in deep opening postures.
Lengthen and open your entire body with this wonderful balancing pose.
Here's
a posture that really illustrates the concept of bandhas quite well.
The idea is that whenever one reaches or presses in one direction with
any part of their body, it's counterbalanced by another body part,
pressing or reaching equally in the opposite direction.
