Mission Possible

Jenna Phillips is on a mission to motivate and encourage people to make smart lifestyle choices. One source of her own motivation came in February 2000 when she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Jenna tackled the challenge head on by making simple changes including daily physical activity and healthy foods. She began studying nutrition and holistic healing, and became a certified teacher for classes in both spinning and pilates. Since then, Jenna has been developing a loyal following of students and an extensive list of clients whom she personally trains.

In February 2007, Jenna’s love of inspiring people to get moving and get healthy motivated her to found her own fitness company, Mission Possible. Featuring her trademark outdoor training sessions, Mission Possible was an instant hit, and people from all over LA were hooked: some still drive over 30 miles to attend a workout. http://www.jennaphillips.com

You've probably heard of essential fatty acids (EFAs) or seen them graze the pages of certain publications.  But what are they and why do we need them? EFAs, also known as omega -3s and -6s, are polyunsaturated fats that cannot be produced by the body so we must get them from our food.  Studies have shown that EFAs can be a helpful weapon against coronary disease, Alzheimer's disease, acne, IBS, diabetes, breast cancer, and depression.

I have always really liked pumpkin seeds, but now I am fully in love.  I have discovered a company called HARVEST ROAST and they make slow roasted pumpkin seeds in 5 different flavors (my favorite flavor is the chili lime)! Available at Whole Foods, these tasty little treats have only 120 calories per serving (same size serving as almonds but HALF the calories!).Not only are they so delicious, they are jam-packed with tons of nutrients!  Pumpkin seeds naturally contain niacin, magnesium, phosphorous, iron, linolenic acid and amino acids (arginine and glutamic).  They are full of both omega-3 and -6 essential fatty acids.  They are a wonderful source of protein and are full of fiber (10 grams per serving!).  Hands down the best snack ever!
