This week another tragedy occurred, involving tainted products made in China. Powdered milk from Shijiazhuang San Lu Group, China's largest corporate dairy, was found to be contaminated with toxic levels of melamine.
For those who may not remember, melamine was one of the toxins found in the deadly pet foods, imported into the United States by San Francisco based Wilbur-Ellis in June of last year. The contaminated rice was distributed by trusted major brands and dying pets sent a ripple of fear through consumer's hearts. |

The snarky muckraker in me would answer that an FDA approval is like a lottery ticket worth billions. Thanks to changes in the law under the Bush Administration, an approval now means companies are not subject to many of the lawsuits they used to be.
Congress went so far as to allow protection to companies who got approvals with studies found to be fraudulent, so long as it got through to the FDA approval, no harm comes to the drug maker and no suits will haunt their profitability. |

A funny thing is happening in the American food supply and while it affects everyone there's surprisingly little discussion of what's going on. There is almost daily coverage about the threats to our security from terrorists but only the calmest reaction to what's being carried out by corporate activity that threatens us right here at home. |

When we talk about foods we very often forget to think about drinks. Since the past weeks have been filled with notes from parents with allergy kids my focus is on the littlest ones today. Too often we forget that babies have little systems that are more effected by every ounce they consume. The lack of variety concentrates each item as part of a total diet.
We all know that water is essential and one of the biggest sellers in America. All waters are not created equal though; the best are spring water with nothing added.
While the Vitamin water and trendier packages may have great appeal on the shelf there is nothing of real benefit added and in some cases it's hard to know what exactly they have used to achieve the claims. |

For nearly a decade I have researched the genetically engineered foods that have made their was into our food supply as untested and unregulated ingredients. In the process there has been a lot of evidence of Congressional corruption and the undermining of the regulatory Agencies cross my radar. It has made me a huge critic of Government assurances of safety. |
