Livin La Vida Low-Carb

Jimmy MooreSpartanburg, South Carolina

My life was radically changed forever on January 1, 2004. That's the day that marks the first day in a journey I now refer to as livin' la vida low-carb.

As a 410-pound morbidly obese man with breathing problems, blood pressure skyrocketing, cholesterol through the roof and other obesity-related health conditions that were leading me to a one-way ticket to an early grave, I decided enough was enough.

I got on the Atkins diet after reading "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" book and even started exercising for the first time in my life. Although it was a difficult struggle at times throughout the process of losing weight, I was able to lose nearly 200 pounds that year and I've kept it off ever since with low-carb living.

My life has been radically transformed and it's all because of the healthy low-carb way of eating. I created a blog (http://livinlavidalocarb.blogspot.com) in April 2005 called "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" to help encourage and educate others about this miraculous health and weight loss program and I even wrote a book called "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb:  My Journey From Flabby Fat To Sensationally Skinny In One Year" to share my story of hope with others.

It is my mission in life to help anyone who is overweight or obese to begin dealing with their weight problem and to rise triumphantly over it just like I did.  Please feel free to e-mail me anytime at livinlowcarbman@charter.net if you need a word of encouragement, some useful advice from someone who has been there, or just a listening ear.  I'm here to help you.

Low-Carb Making Krispy Kreme Continue To Bite The Dust Print E-mail

Livin' la vida low-carb is STILL haunting Krispy Kreme doughnuts

One of the most difficult guessing games that happens behind the scenes of the American economy is figuring out how to create a product that people will want often enough to turn a consistent profit. It is this decision-making process that will either make or break a company.

You hate to gloat when a company has to file for bankruptcy (although the media certainly didn't mind doing it when Atkins Nutritionals did in 2005 but then they completely ignored it when they emerged from bankruptcy stronger in January 2006). But when that company is Krispy Kreme doughnuts and they continue to struggle to remain viable promoting high-sugar, high-carb products as their mainstay, it's hard to feel sorry for them.

Dr. Larry McCleary says sharpen your brain by livin' la vida low-carb

It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that the low-carb lifestyle is one of the healthiest nutritional plans out there to battle obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and so many other health ailments that plague modern society. But what about that actual gray matter between our ears? Can a low-carb diet do anything to improve brain function, memory, and even diseases like Alzheimer's?

One of America's top neurosurgeons says YES!

Whenever low-carb diets are discussed in the United States and around the world these days, generally one name has been made synonymous with them--Atkins. However, most low-carbers will tell you that the idea of livin' la vida low-carb as a genuine dietary movement has been around for much longer than that as the always entertaining and informative Dr. Mike Eades shared in his outstanding blog this week.

Dr. Yunsheng Ma contends high-carb diets best for cardiovascular health

With all the attention being placed on high-fat, low-carb diets again with the release of the new Gary Taubes book Good Calories, Bad Calories last week, you just HAD to know a study like this one was bound to mysteriously show up seemingly out of thin air so it would make headlines. Don't believe for a second this thing was not coordinated with the Taubes book release. It's just too conveniently timed if you ask me.

Feinman To Warshaw: How Healthy Is A Diabetes Diet That Requires Medication? Print E-mail

Dr. Feinman tells Warshaw what she can do with her high-carb advice

One of the most controversial debates within the diabetic community right now is around the subject of carbohydrate-restricted diets as a means for naturally controlling blood sugar levels and insulin production (we can thank Men's Health columnist Adam Campbell for writing this outstanding column about it in late 2006 to get the ball rolling). It's a fascinating subject since so much research is pointing to livin' la vida low-carb as an excellent way to tame and virtually "cure" diabetes naturally without the use of drugs or insulin in many patients. It truly is a miracle for diabetics!

Nevertheless, the so-called "experts" in the field of diabetes are none too pleased with all this talk about low-carb diets because they do not give this way of eating any credence whatsoever as a legitimate nutritional approach for taking on diabetes, especially the ever-growing Type 2. One such leader in the anti-low-carb movement happening within diabetes circles is author, nutritionist, and diabetes educator Hope Warshaw.
