My life was radically changed forever on January 1, 2004. That's the day that marks the first day in a journey I now refer to as livin' la vida low-carb.
As a 410-pound morbidly obese man with breathing problems, blood pressure skyrocketing, cholesterol through the roof and other obesity-related health conditions that were leading me to a one-way ticket to an early grave, I decided enough was enough.
I got on the Atkins diet after reading "Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution" book and even started exercising for the first time in my life. Although it was a difficult struggle at times throughout the process of losing weight, I was able to lose nearly 200 pounds that year and I've kept it off ever since with low-carb living.
My life has been radically transformed and it's all because of the healthy low-carb way of eating. I created a blog (http://livinlavidalocarb.blogspot.com) in April 2005 called "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb" to help encourage and educate others about this miraculous health and weight loss program and I even wrote a book called "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb: My Journey From Flabby Fat To Sensationally Skinny In One Year" to share my story of hope with others.
It is my mission in life to help anyone who is overweight or obese to begin dealing with their weight problem and to rise triumphantly over it just like I did. Please feel free to e-mail me anytime at livinlowcarbman@charter.net if you need a word of encouragement, some useful advice from someone who has been there, or just a listening ear. I'm here to help you.

After featuring these five new low-carb blogs and then these five more in the past few weeks, I have received many requests from my readers to keep doing this from time to time with the new diet and health blogs I come across. I'm always happy to oblige a reasonable suggestion like this!
However, today I want to focus on some new blogs that may or may not have a "low-carb" tilt to them. While it is certainly helpful to people who are livin' la vida low-carb to find sources of information that help them in their specific lifestyle choice, there's a lot that can be learned from other weight loss and fitness bloggers as you will quickly find out with the blogs I have for you today. |

A recurring theme keeps popping up in my e-mail box that merits serious discussion. Here's an e-mail illustration to explain it:
"Hello there. Congrats on your weight loss success. I have a question for you. I am doing the high protein diet but I am ALWAYS hungry and eat all the time. I eat all protein and A LOT of it. Was it the same for you? How can I fix this? I feel like at this rate I will gain weight not lose it."
Sound familiar anyone? |

Have you ever caught yourself thinking about how long it would take you to burn off a meal you had just eaten, especially one that was not very healthy? Maybe you have, maybe not. I know I have after splurging on an Apple Cinnamon Fruit Filled Pancakes meal at Denny's. Those 1,080 calories and 106g carbohydrates I just consumed will take me over 4 1/2 hours on the treadmill to walk it off! Yikes! I think I'll skip that meal from now on. :)
How did I know about this wonderful tidbit of nutritional knowledge? I owe it all to Mr. Diet Detective Charles Stuart Platkin himself and his new book The Diet Detective's Count Down . This handy-dandy little guide to 7500 different foods provides you with a quick-reference exercise equivalent to just about any food that will cross your lips. |

In the arena of ideas about diet and health, I can't help but notice a trend lately within Christian circles to start talking about weight loss from the perspective of what God would have humans eat from a Biblical perspective. For those who are nonbelievers, this kind of discussion is a non sequitur since the concept of a Creator and His instruction manual for living life are completely foreign to them.
But with tens of millions of Bible-believing, God-fearing Christians in the United States alone, anyone who quotes Scripture and makes an assertion about a subject based on verses from the Bible will at least capture the attention of the faith-based crowd and quite possibly convince them that they are right. |

I never get tired of hearing about people making the necessary changes in their life to get fit and healthy (check out this list of low-carb weight loss success stories!). So I was absolutely thrilled and inspired after reading this Nashua (NH) Telegraph story about a man named Ray Hunting who lost an unbelievable 175 pounds--chopping himself in two!
"I lost half myself," he exclaimed.
Hunting, 28, had allowed his weight to creep up to 350 pounds and was wearing size 60 inch pants, 3XL shirts, and was absolutely miserable with the life he had been given. The more I read his story, I couldn't help but see myself in it time and time again which I will illustrate in a moment. |
