The Star Skinny

I’m a freelance health writer and entertainment reporter, so I alternate between stalking the stars and digging up info on diet and fitness trends. Sometimes, I do both—hence this blog. If you’ve been trying to figure out how to squeeze into size 25 jeans or fulfill your destiny as an action hero, this is your place to find out how the celebs did it (and, more importantly, how they DIDN’T do it) no matter what they want you to believe.

Well, I’ve been whining about the lack of interesting celeb diets lately, since everyone seems to be copping to the same wholesome, sensible diet. 3) “Whenever I’m hungry, I have a couple of almonds.”

Apparently Mariah Carey has lost 20 pounds, although I’m not entirely sure I buy that. For starters, she’s looked exactly the same—give or take some water weight—since, what, 1996? Also, last year she was on Leno claiming to have lost 32 pounds. So I guess at some point, we all must have missed the era when Mariah Carey weighed 200 pounds. Because she sure has lost a lot of weight for someone who wasn’t overweight before and isn’t stick-thin now.

I swear there’s some sort of celebrity competition to see who can make exercise sound the easiest. I mean, just this week Hilary Swank credited Power Pilates and good genes for her perfect figure, even though everybody and their mother knows exactly how hard Hilary works to stay in shape. She practically won an Oscar for weight lifting. (And acting, too, of course. But you can’t tell me she would’ve won without those biceps!)
