Foods that Shed Pounds!
I grew up constantly trying to lose weight, so I was always excited to hear about any new food gimmick or trick that would burn fat -- you know, the ones that promise you a svelte figure if you just eat a certain food, or drink a certain drink.

This may sound strange coming from someone who writes about health and nutrition, but no sooner had I mastered the differences between saturated and unsaturated fat then there was a new fat to contend with -- trans fatty acids, or "trans fats."
 
Hiding Behind the Food Label
I just came back from the supermarket, and I must say it's dizzying to see all the products claiming to be low fat, reduced fat, fat free, lean, healthy, light -- the list goes on and on. As a conscious eater with a taste for the "good stuff," I always look for "calorie bargains" -- the foods that taste great, but at a reduced calorie level.
 
Caffeine: Friend or Foe?
We ingest a lot of caffeine in this country. In fact, according to the International Food Information Council, the per capita consumption of caffeine for the average adult is approximately 200 milligrams daily -- the equivalent of about two to three cups of coffee.
